TAKE A CLASS WITH ME AT THE NEW YORK ACADEMY OF ART
The Art of Comics and Graphic Novels
A combination of in class lectures and exercises will be used to explore drawing fundamentals as they have contributed to visual storytelling for centuries. Being that the panel layout is a defining characteristic of sequential art, composition will be the backdrop of this course. Each lesson will bring a common component of sequential composition into focus, specifically the figure, environment, and speech bubbles. Simultaneously, mark making in ink will be explored as students learn how to draw these forms from imagination. Ultimately, students will discover the unique ways in which composition, inking, and drawing serve their stories.
